40 in My 40s | Digital Detox Weekend

This weekend’s challenge isn’t about doing more.

It’s about disconnecting to reconnect.

For another #40InMy40s goal, I’m committing to 40 digital detox / tech-free weekends over the next decade - no endless scrolling, no constant notifications, no noise pulling attention away from what matters most.

✔️ More presence

✔️ More clarity

✔️ More real conversations

✔️ More space to think, reflect, and reset

Our devices are powerful tools—but they were never meant to own our attention. Sometimes the most intentional move forward is stepping away.

In this blog from SouthWest General, they discuss the many benefits of a digital detox, including physical, mental, and emotional positives. Phone notifications trigger a physiological stress response, typically a cortisol release, and sometimes a release of dopamine depending on the notification. These notifications can create bad habits formed via the habit loop.

By breaking this cycle through a digital detox, an individual may experience reductions in cortisol levels, thus alleviating potential physiological stress. HOWEVER, I am anticipating to experience some levels of stress due to not being connected via technology.

Who’s in for a digital detox weekend?
